- 2 hr 35m session
- main aim was to acquire baseline images of of HD 149026 and TrES-1 (exosolar planet parent star project) , Gliese 1245 (nearby star project),
- also acquired were images of SS Cyg (variable star project),  61 Cygni, Ross 248 and Groombridge 34 (nearby stars project) and the mira variable (U Her)
- developing cloud prevented acquisition of planned infrared imaging of Maffei 1, Maffei 2 (galaxies largely obscured by Milky Way dust)

XO-1 - Parent Star to Exosolar Planet

Further baseline images of XO-1 were acquired as part of a project to detect the transit of an exosolar planet, that is known to orbit this star
(exosolar planet project).

U Her - Mira variable

U Her (Hercules)

U Her is a mira variable with catalog period of 406.1 days and magnitude range of +6.4 to +13.4.
Images were acquired in C, B, V, R & I filters
A magnitude of +7.5 (V band) is estimated fro U Her using the comparison star technique,
suggesting that the variable is near peak brightness.

(V) : U Her (SAO 102160)
(C) : SAO 102156  (B: 11.44, V 9.53)
(K) : GSC 1514:1226

The comparative brightness of U Her in Infrared band is
shown in the following series of images (2006-07-23)

B: #131030, V: #131045, R: #131039, I: # 13143

Colour analysis of U Her
Although U Her (1.98) and SAO 102156 (1.91) have similar B-V values,
U Her is relatively much brighter in red and infrared than the B-V value would suggest
(put another way, U Her is brighter in blue than might be expected, given its redness)
 [ U Her spectral type : M6.5e-M9.5e ]

HD 149026 - Parent Star to Exosolar Planet

Baseline images of HD 149026 were acquired as part of a project to detect the transit of an exosolar planet, that is known to orbit this star
(exosolar planet project).

Annotated CCD Image
3 x 30s (average combine), C filter)
2006-07-23 22:50h UT (#131053-55)

Monitoring HD 149026 for small magnitude changes during exosolar
planet transits will be difficult due to the lack of a suitable
reference star of similar brightness within the same field of view.

Less accurate method of monitoring will be to alternate frames of
HD 149026 with frames from offset reference star.
 Possible offset stars :

HIP 80885  (Hercules)
HIP 80885 is actually a double star (Struve 2059)
with 1 arc sec separation (too small to be
seen at resolution of image)

TrES-1 - Parent Star to Exosolar Planet

(exosolar planet project).
