PGC 100170 - Galaxy (Dwingeloo 1)

PGC 2666 - Dwarf Spheroidal Galaxy (Andromeda I) - 2.9 mly

Variable Stars

Photometric Monitoring - Variables

- RX And, W And, Z And, CI Cyg, SS Cyg, BL Lac, CY Lyr, RU Peg, DY Per, GK Per, V Sge, RR Tau

U And, FG Sge attempts (failed due to condensation/frost on corrector lens)

Astrometric Monitoring - Nearby Stars

- Ross 248 (HH And), Groombridge 34,

- Evening session (4.3 hr). Very cold (minimum temperature -3.5 degC)

Autostar II/LX200 performing normally

- Session operated under semi-automated control

- Ambient Temperature: Falling to -3.5 degC (minimum)

- CCD operation -30 degC (at 62% average cooling).

- main objectives of the session was to acquire images of key selected stars for ongoing photometric and astrometric analysis, and test new off-chip binning functionality with increased Gain

- secondary objective was to acquire images of a few Local Group and other nearby Galaxies. Some results (PGC 143, PGC 14241, PGC 15439, PGC 2544) poor due to Moonlight and condensation/frost on corrector lens.

PGC 100170 / Dwingeloo 1 (Cassiopeia) PGC 100170 / Dwingeloo 1 is a member of the Maffei I Galaxy Group. It lies in the plane of the Milky Way and is largely obscured by dust. Imaging attempt made through Infrared Filter to increase chance of seeing the galaxy

PGC 100170 - detail Central core of the galaxy is just visible in the centre of image. Bright star in bottom left is the double star Struve 321 (components Mag +9.1 & +10.1, separation 19 arc sec)
