Objects Session Notes
Bullet Barnard's Star (HIP 87937) - Nearby Star (5.94 ly)
Bullet Astrometric & Photometric Monitoring
- SS Cyg (dwarf nova)
- V2491 Cyg (nova)

- BL Lac (blazar)
- RX And, EV Lac (variables)
- Barnards Star, EV Lac, Groombridge 34, Ross 248 (Nearby Stars)

- Late evening session (1.6hr) - again cut short by developing cloud.
- Warm night, ambient Temperature 15 degC
- CCD operation of -15 degC
(at 86% average cooling).
- main objective was to acquire images of certain selected stars for ongoing photometric and astrometric analysis.
- cloud unfortunately developed before being able to image a planned set of mira variables (U Her, U And, W And)

Goto Notes from 2008-07-23

Barnard's Star (HIP 87937) - Nearby Star (5.94 ly)

Continued monitoring of Barnard's Star shows good results with well defined proper motion and parallax combining to give a clear annual wobble in the star's path, relative to background stars.

Barnard's Star, HIP 87937  (Ophiuchus)
2nd closest known star system to the Sun
only 5.94 light years away
Star with largest known proper motion
