Notes (S00098)

- Marathon session (10 hours), clear sky all night, generally calm (minor breeze at times), ambient temperature 8 degC dropping to 3 deg C.
- Aim of session was to record images on RR Lyrae through around 5 hours of its 13.6 hr period.   
- In the event around 8 hours of RR Lyrae data was recorded (59% of total period) and subsequent processing showed that the rise from minimum to maximum was nicely captured.
- Opportunity was taken to record Mosaic images of M44 & M39, detailed images of M1 and photometric images of Delta Cepheid. 
- Total of 1258 frames were recorded including dark frames  (Session 98 includes image numbers up to 99260)
- Total light frame exposure time was 5.2 hours.
- Mars was a brilliant object all night long.  It was tempting to image it, but this was not feasible due to the need to swap out my current wide field optical system (focal reducers / with current BVR filters) and replace by narrow field optical (with barlow and RGB filters). Mars is down on the list for imaging in the very near future.

RR Lyrae - Variable Star

An alternating sequence of  V Filter (10s exposure) and B Filter (20s exposure) images were recorded over an 8 hour interval.  Image capture was via automated scripts, however occasional manual intervention was required to keep both RR Lryae and the reference star with field of view and at one point to remove dew which had formed on the front lens of the LX200 scope.

The dataset records the rapid brightening of RR Lyrae over a 1.5 - 2 hour interval, followed by a gradual dimming as the star proceeded through its regular period.

Image Maximum brightness was not accurately captured 
due to condensation/dew forming on the front 
the telescope (the dew shield having been removed 
due to wind vibration)

The image on left is taken at around maximum, but is 
clearly, this was due to condensation which had 
temporarily formed on the front of the telescope

However after clearing the dew the brightened 
nature of RR Lyr was evident even looking 
at raw realtime images.

Delta Cepheid - Variable Star (Cepheid)

Two sequence of images of Delta Cepheid  &reference star were recorded at around 03:00h UT (2005-10-09) and 04:26h. These were analyzed using the methodology described under 2005-10-05 Notes

B Band Magnitude estimates for Delta Cepheid 
from images between 2005-10-02 and 2005-10-09
(Reference Star SAO 34542, B mag +3.81)

UGC 1990 - Galaxy with possible supernova (2005ev)

A mag +16 supernova (2005ev) has been reported in UGC on 2005-10-04
at position  02 31 04.93 +27 42 06.5 CBET 244 )
