Imaging session was with eyepiece projection bringing 8" f/10 LX200 to f/36. Images were recorded with ST7 CCD camera & CFW8 Colour Filter Wheel. Seeing was poorer than hoped (due to high thin cloud) and image quality was consequently very poor, with little detail.   Images are posted here for reference only.  Reduction was with dark frames only (ie no flat frames were used).

Due to the high magnification a major problem during the session was the time taken to place the target planets (Jupiter & Saturn) onto the CCD frame, and focussing. At f/36 the CCD frame is equivalent to a sky area of only 3.2 x 2.2 arc mins and pointing with Telrad can not routinely get an object closer than around 8-10 arc min.

Jupiter 

Jupiter 8" LX200 operating at f/36,  giving a theoretical resolution of 0.25 arc sec/pixel,  but in practice the resolution is no better than 2.5 arc sec/pixel

Saturn
