Several thousand extrasolar planets have been detected in the last two decades, spanning a wide range of masses and separations.
As new types of planets become accessible, they pose new challenges to the theoretical models trying to explain their formation.
In this talk Dr. Bonavita gives an overview of the state of the art of the Direct Imaging exoplanet research, and the constraints that the current data set can help put on our knowledge of the planet formation mechanisms.
